Faten Nastas Mitwasi talks with Qanita Lilla about growing up in Bethlehem in occupied Palestine, the artistic sensibilities she inherited from her parents, and establishing a career as an artist, curator, scholar and arts administrator. Faten shares the physical and emotional challenges of attending art school in Israel and the joys of making site-specific and community-engaged art in Palestine and around the world. This conversation shows that contemporary Palestinian art is rich in humor, experimentation and full of hope for the future.

Meet our Guest

Faten Nastas Mitwasi is an artist dedicated to fostering cultural appreciation and acceptance both within her community and globally. She employs a range of mediums, from handicrafts and digital photography to video, to create her site-specific installations.

From an early age, Faten has been focused on the documentation, historiography, and presentation of Palestinian art. She has conducted extensive research in this field, authored several articles and three books, and curated various exhibitions and art projects, including the Palestinian Collection for the “Imago Mundi” international project.

She is currrently a PhD student in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies at Queen’s University.
