Exhibition
OFF-SITE @ Gallery44, 4 April–24 May 2025
A Smile Split by the Stars, an AGNES off–site exhibition, is now open at Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography.
Led by Katherine McKittrick, this exhibition exists as a collaboration between artists interpreting norbeSe philip’s poem, Meditations on the Declension of Beauty by the Girl with the Flying Cheek-bones. A Smile Split by the Stars offers a range of interpretations of the poem through essays, conversations, archival work, bookmaking, via photographic and textual narratives, in sounds and shared stories.
Several events accompany the exhibition, including a poetry reading by philip and two workshops with limited seat space. For more information visit A Smile Split by the Stars.
Participating artists and collaborators include Juliane Okot Bitek, Trish Salah, Cora Gilroy-Ware, Chloé Savoie-Bernard, Yaniya Lee, Sameen Mahboubi, Aaliyah Strachan, Muna Dahir, Cristian Ordóñez, Roya DelSol, and Agnes’s Associate Curator, Academic and Community Engagement, Nasrin Himada.
Co-produced by The Revolutionary Demand for Happiness, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre and Images Festival.

Artmaking
May + June 2025
EronOne is one of the super cool graffiti artists behind AGNES’s monumental 2022 artwork Transformations, the graffiti project which covered Agnes’s former facades and changed the face of Queen’s University campus.
In May and June, EronOne delivers two sessions of Aerosol Art: An Introduction to Spray Paint. Participants develop designs in their sketchbooks before learning safe and effective spray-painting methods that bring their vision to life. These workshops culminate in the creation of a collaborative public mural. No prior experience is necessary and all supplies are included.
Workshops will take place at EronOne’s studio Wherehouse.
This workshop is for teen participants. Spots are limited so register now! Bursary applications are available.

AGNES Talks
Now streaming on Digital Agnes
Watch Dr Stephanie Porras’ talk, The Dutch in the Americas, on the understudied presence of Dutch colonialists in what we now call North and South America. Outlining how the Dutch colonial project both diverged and overlapped with their competitors, this talk considers the central role these ‘Dutch’ artists, artworks and material goods played in the region, presenting an alternate view of the colonial Americas.
Presented with full captioning and downloadable transcript. Experience now on Digital AGNES.
