This Week at Agnes

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Today on the 30th of September, we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the strength and tenacity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis survivors of residential schools and their communities, while remembering the children who did not return home.

For Indigenous communities, this is a day of remembrance. For others, it is an opportunity to listen, learn and come together through meaningful conversation. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and by creating space for Indigenous voices, stories, art and perspectives, we can continue to learn from one another and build stronger relationships for the future.

Pahkahokowin

5th Annual Indigenous Art Exhibition.

In honour of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, pahkahokowin bathes the Union gallery in brilliant colour through the works of Indigenous artists residing in Katarokwi, reflecting on family, community, Indigenous culture, and our interconnected relationships to Mother Earth.

Agnes, the Queen’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives and Union Gallery have partnered on the annual Indigenous Art Exhibition, bringing together Indigenous artists from Queen’s and the wider Katarokwi Kingston community. On view for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and beyond, Pahkahokowin centres Indigenous artists, relationships and community building.

Curated by Sasza Hinton, pahkahokowin is open until 3 October 2026.
