Bursaries for this program are supported by the Iva Speers Fund for Art Education.

Join local printmaker Lisa Leskien for a hands-on introduction to linocut printmaking techniques in this 8-week class.

Drawing inspiration from historical and contemporary prints in the Agnes collection, participants will learn single-colour, multi-colour reduction, and multi-block printing methods. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with both soft and traditional linoleum blocks, using a range of carving tools in various shapes and sizes. By the end of the course, each participant will complete two editions of 10 prints—unique works of art to keep, share, or trade.

No experience is necessary—just bring your creativity! All materials are provided.

Artist Biography

Lisa Leskien is an artist on the loose. She specializes in stylized, representational oil paintings, as well as linocut and woodcut prints that reflect the wonder she sees in everyday life. Using bold mark-making, thick “juicy” paint, and highly exaggerated colours, her pieces are full of life and movement. Lisa’s enthusiasm for the creative process is infectious—something she shares not only through her art, but also as an art instructor at Agnes, The Hive Studio, ArtNoise, and The Senior’s Centre in Kingston. She teaches a range of classes including beginner and intermediate painting, landscape and still life painting, printmaking, crochet, and arts workshops. Her work can be found on Instagram at @lisa.on.the.loose
