Step into Canadian impressionism in this hands-on acrylic painting class led by local artist Lisa Leskien. Drawing inspiration from Canadian painters of the early 1900s, this course invites you to explore colour, atmosphere, and expressive mark-making.
Lisa will guide participants through key techniques such as composing a compelling landscape, painting on colourful grounds, building a unified palette, and mixing vibrant greens. You’ll also practice painting elements like trees, skies, and snow. Through a series of four small canvas studies, you’ll develop skills and experiment before creating a larger landscape painting of your choice.
Perfect for beginner painters and those looking to deepen their approach to landscapes, this course offers a welcoming and supportive environment to build technique and confidence. No previous experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. All materials are provided.

Lisa Leskien is an artist on the loose. She specializes in stylized, representational oil paintings, as well as linocut and woodcut prints that reflect the wonder she sees in everyday life. Using bold mark-making, thick “juicy” paint, and highly exaggerated colours, her pieces are full of life and movement. Lisa’s enthusiasm for the creative process is infectious—something she shares not only through her art, but also as an art instructor at Agnes, The Hive Studio, ArtNoise, and The Senior’s Centre in Kingston. She teaches a range of classes including beginner and intermediate painting, landscape and still life painting, printmaking, crochet, and arts workshops.
