Queering Collage:
Pride Edition 2026!

Rideau Building
207 Stuart St
Rm 223
7 June 2026
1–4 pm

Create and connect with community!

Spend time in community—chatting, connecting, and creating, and join artists Alyssa Vernon and Alyssa Lynn for a special edition of Queering Collage in celebration of Kingston Pride. Participants will combine collage and cartooning as tools for self-expression and activism while engaging in conversations around actionable approaches to activist and liberatory work.

Alyssa Lynn will guide participants in the creation of their own Fluttergrrl, characters created by Lynn that are inspired by riot grrrl culture and reflect intersectional feminist approaches and anti-oppressive education. Alyssa Vernon will help participants decorate their Fluttergrrl through expressive collage-making and intentionally curated collage kits.

All materials are provided, and no prior art experience is necessary. You’re also welcome to bring personal images, such as photographs or magazine clippings, to incorporate into your collage.

This program is made possible by the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area (CFKA) Anonymous Fund.

Biographies

Alyssa Vernon (she/her) is a Jamaican-Guyanese collage artist, educator, and arts worker living in Kingston, Ontario. Alyssa is currently a full-time student undergoing her Masters in Gender Studies at Queen’s University, but she holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Gender Studies and a Bachelor of Education with a Social Justice concentration from Queen’s University. Her schooling has led to her continual integration of anti-oppressive pedagogy within arts-based activism. Alyssa is the founder of the Queer Collage Collective (QCC), where she facilitates anti-oppressive, healing-centered collage programs across community organizations, schools and galleries, centering the histories and experiences of Black, racialized, and queer communities. Alyssa’s personal collage practice explores Black girlhood, (un)belonging, queer liberation, and community care, drawing from Black histories to imagine liberatory futures. Follow and get in touch with QCC to see the work Alyssa is up to currently: @queercollagecollectives and @collagequeen.co

Alyssa Lynn (she/they) is a passionate Katarokwi/Kingston-based, queer, artist-educator whose work explores themes of belonging, nostalgia, gender and sexual identity, and community. She works in a variety of mediums from acrylics and oil pastels to felting, embroidery and cross-stitch. Through both artmaking and art-education, Alyssa seeks to foster empathy, bridge gaps between communities, and create spaces of acceptance and connection.
