The Studio is a place to meet innovative practicing artists from Kingston and across Canada, hear about their work and artistic practice and explore a creative project together.
Join artist Tessa Charlebois for an afternoon of close looking, creative exploration, and watercolour painting inspired by the plant life around us.
The workshop begins with a presentation introducing Tessa’s artistic practice and the ways careful observation informs her work. Participants will then head over to the nearby Queen’s Native Pollinator Garden, where they’ll spend time observing plants, creating sketches and watercolour studies, and responsibly collecting a small selection of plant samples for further study. Returning to the studio, participants will examine their samples through microscopes and continue to add detail to their sketches and watercolour paintings.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. All materials are provided.

To show the beauty that exists in the world. Tessa Charlebois’ primary practice is in drawing and painting, but her real love is work with metal. Growing up in North Western Ontario; surrounded by nature has been the root to her inspiration. A community art organizer, she created Atélier BACK40, a dream come true. The love of being in a place where expression is infinite. To help others grab that same feeling. Recently, her focus has shifted on thinking about creating art for hospitals, as a haven and solace, as she navigates her health journey through the medical system.
