Call for Pitches: Queering the Collection - Agnes Etherington Art Centre Agnes Etherington Art Centre

Agnes highlights queer, trans and intersex hirstories in the collection.

Queering the Collection publishes various interpretations of works in the collection that disrupt the traditional production of art canons. Do you want to create content for this new series of Collection Highlights featured on Digital Agnes? Agnes seeks expressions of interest from the broader Queen’s community, including students, alumni, faculty and staff. Submit by 23 April 2024.

Reflecting Agnes’s values, programming and pedagogy, Collection Highlights are a space to engage in digital-first storytelling, share critical research, creatively engage with artists and artworks represented in Agnes’s collection, and go beyond what is shared in the collections database.

Potential participants are encouraged to review Agnes’s collections online for artists or artworks they may want to write about.

We encourage a broad range of approaches to Collection Highlights that may include but are not limited to:

Short essays
Creative writing
Visual essays
Audio/podcasts
Video

TO SUBMIT

To be considered for participation, please submit the following:

A short letter of interest (150–300 words max) that tells us a little about yourself, such as your department or program, area of study, and/or research interests. Please also include up to three options for possible artists or artworks in Agnes’s collection that you are considering for a potential Collection Highlight as part of Queering the Collection.
A writing sample (no longer than 1500–3000 words) or portfolio (not over 10 images or 10 minutes of media)

Selected participants will receive editorial and digital support from Agnes curatorial and digital project staff.

Fees will be determined upon acceptance of final proposals and dependent on the length of text (max 1000 words), media and scale of the project.
