For National Volunteer Week, we highlight the excellent work of the volunteers who support our public programs!
Agnes Docents lead and support a host of programs including Deep Looking, private group tours, and our elementary school program.
This year our team delivered 64 elementary school tours and welcomed over 1,500 students to the Agnes! For our fall program, Emergence, students developed their knowledge of the elements of art and experimented with printmaking through their exploration of groundbreaking Indigenous artists of the 1970s. This winter, students expanded their understanding of the concept of ‘home’ and experimented with collage with the program Making Home.
Docents attend weekly docent training meetings where they hone their skills and deepen their knowledge on a variety of topics. This year we learnt alongside various individuals including Amy Brant from the Office of Indigenous Initiatives who helped us think deeply about Land Acknowledgements, Patty Douglas from the Department of Education who shared neuro-affirming approaches in education and Dan Walmsley who led a fantastic improv workshop!
We would also like to recognize, our amazing Art Hive volunteer, Gursharan Gill. She supported this free weekly program, helping to create a welcoming space for artmaking and well-being for approximately 450 participants.
We are so grateful for the passion and dedication of our team!
