Canta Arya School for Strings is eastern Ontario’s leading school for Suzuki string education. Canta Arya Strings, our premier ensemble, has performed this year with the Performance Ensemble of Canada in China, with Orchestra Kingston, and with the members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra at The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts for Culture Days.

Bader Curator and Researcher of European Art Dr Jacquelyn N. Coutré will talk about a recent acquisition, Herman Verelst’s Portrait of an Unknown Woman of 1688. Early investigations resulted in an important re-attribution, and ongoing research has inspired an exciting and sometimes challenging journey to identify the sitter.

Featuring  Musician Cam Ormand and Sunny Kerr on How to Survive a Contemporary Art Fair

Cam Ormond is a Kingston marimbaist originally from Toronto. He started his study of marimba while at Queen’s University’s music program. He has performed  with the Kingston Symphony as well as serving as setting music for weddings. Currently he is studying computer programming while continuing his personal pursuit of music whenever possible.

Join Sunny Kerr for tips and tricks you need to know before visiting the hybrid trade fair / networking scene / massive exhibition that is a contemporary art fair. He will give a visual and narrative report on Art Toronto 2018 by way of illustration.

Featuring Two Thirds Down and Jenn Nicoll

Based in Kingston Ontario, Two Thirds Down Under consists of two dinky-di Aussies and a retired globe trotter who has settled in Canada. The trio, two clarinets (and sometimes flute) and cello, play a smorgasbord of selections from Bach to Beatles, original compositions and arrangements for the group and beyond. They have been playing together now for over a year.Agnes Collections Manager and Exhibition Coordinator Jennifer Nicoll will talk about the recent Agnes loan of Rembrandt’s Head of an Old Man in Cap to the Denver Art Museum for their exhibition, Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker.  She will describe the loan process in art museums and her courier trip to supervise the transport and delivery of the painting to Denver.9 September 2018

We are kicking off this season’s INSIDE AGNES series with performances from The Volunteer Committee of the Kingston Symphony Association Music Award winners: Sophia Battel, Alice Kim, Victoria Lui, Avery Marcella,  Felix Melanson, and Leonid Nediak. Discover Kingston’s youngest pianists and cellists!

Artists have drawn inspiration from the heavens for hundreds of years. Chief Curator/Curator of Canadian Historical Art Alicia Boutilier provides an inside look at sculpture in the new exhibition In the Present: The Zacks Gift of 1962 and in the Agnes collection and considers how the 1960s space race changed the way that artists viewed the cosmos, and even changed the materials and textures that they used.
