Agnes welcomes new TD Civic Engagement, Strategic Initiatives and Impact Coordinator

14 January 2025

Agnes Etherington Art Centre (AGNES) is excited to announce Neshan Tung as the TD Civic Engagement, Strategic Initiatives and Impact Coordinator. This is a brand-new position at Agnes designed to innovate new strategies for audience development, membership engagement, and visitor service in support of the socially minded and community focused vision of Agnes Reimagined, the new purpose-built facility opening in 2026.

“I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to join Agnes at this crucial moment, in this very dynamic role,” says Tung. “The chance to have a hand in creating institutional change from the ground up by reconfiguring and reimagining administrative, visitor service and membership models is very exciting. I am also ecstatic to be working with such a wonderfully artistic and collaborative team.”

Tung will lead the development of innovative community projects and events that will align with the new and expanded spaces in Agnes Reimagined, which will increase public programming areas by 150%. This includes a community-facing hub in the downstairs of Etherington House, the new “Living Room” with its Welcome Centre, Arts Maker Space and Studio, and a new 250-seat Arts & Events Hub. Tung will build connections with new audiences and strengthen relationships with long-time supporters locally, nationally and beyond. Tung will also be working to enhance administrative processes to improve and streamline user experience for guests.

“I am so excited to work with Neshan in this special role,” says Director Emelie Chhangur of the appointment. “Neshan is joining Agnes at a pivotal moment in our history as a key member of our awesome team to ensure new administrative systems, visitor services models, and membership initiatives are aligned with Agnes Reimagined’s inclusive and welcoming vision.”

This position reflects AGNES’s dedication to embedding inclusivity, innovation, and accessibility at the heart of its practices. It is designed to provide professional opportunities for those who have faced systemic barriers within museums, offering a hands-on role in reshaping traditional museum models to support a new generation of participants and audiences. This role is generously funded by TD Bank Group, with a goal of amplifying diverse voices in the arts in Canada. Read more about the projects they’ve funded here: TD Arts & Culture.
