Clare Miller is established internationally as a steadfast sensitive collaborative artist.  She appreciates diverse relationships with the Kingston Symphony, Dan School of Drama and Music at Queen’s University, a four-hand partnership with Valery Lloyd-Watts, and collaborations with numerous soloists, choirs, music theatre groups and opera companies across the globe.

Masaya Morita is a grade 12 student at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI). He started playing the violin when he was 2 and turned to the clarinet when he was 14. He is a principal clarinetist in the Kingston Youth Orchestra and is playing in the Queen’s University winds ensemble. Masaya takes private lessons with Kornel Wolak, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Queen’s University.

Following tea, at 3 pm, Heather Parker, Associate Curator, Academic Outreach will speak about the growing academic outreach program, including a new initiative to partner with the School of Medicine in training students observational skills and empathy. Through an extended program, medical students will visit Agnes Etherington Art Centre many times over the course of the Winter semester to learn art making and visual analysis. This new partnership will be also be producing innovative research on art in interdisciplinary education.

For over twenty-five years, Spencer Evans has been performing on the piano, clarinet, vocals and accordion. He has played from Bermuda to Bosnia, New Orleans to the North Pole, has recorded and toured with Sarah Harmer, The Cowboy Junkies, and Pat Temple, and has performed with Jeff Healey, Dan Aykroyd, Willie P. Bennett, Jack Mahieu and Toronto’s Swing Gang, among countless others. Spencer has appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café with Stuart McLean, MUCHmusic and CMT. A resident of Kingston for many years, he has played with numerous local bands such as Bloom, Pico de Gallo, Ghetto Xpress, Funky Frenz, The River Cats and various jazzy combos and is in great demand as a soloist.

Spencer Evans and Doug Stewart play a mix of classic tunes by Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Beatles, Gilberto,and Jazz standards, with Evans on clarinet and Stewart on acoustic guitar, in a predominantly Bossa style.

Following tea, at 3pm, enjoy an insider art talk with Charlotte Gagnier, Program Assistant. Student docents have long held an important role at Agnes, leading educational school programs for elementary and high school students. Charlotte Gagnier will discuss the history of the student docent program at Agnes and offer a glimpse into the process of developing our most recent school program Art Quest.

The Kingston Choral Society Ensemble Singers is an a capella chamber group comprised of a rotating selection of singers from the Kingston Choral Society, a renowned mixed-voice choir performing masterworks and contemporary music. In 2019–2020 the KCS offers music lovers another season of diverse and exciting choral music, including selections from the Bach B minor Mass, lively music from the traditional Proms repertoire and a four-hand version of Brahms’ profoundly moving Requiem, performed in a new English translation, accompanied by Clare Miller and Emily McPherson.

Following tea, at 3 pm, enjoy and insider art talk with Shannon Brown, Program Coordinator. Since an encounter with a Rothko painting at the Guggenheim Museum she has gone on to research the relatively mysterious Stendhal Syndrome and other emotional reactions to great works of art. Join her for a special INSIDE AGNES and make sure you bring your tissues.
