Reva Brooks, along with her husband Canadian painter Leonard Brooks, moved to Mexico in 1947, settling in San Miguel de Allende. There she has created intimate photographic portraits that highlight the connection between photographer and subject. Though she received no formal art school training, Reva Brooks was decisively affected by time spent with Edward Weston at his Carmel, California Estate in 1950s. Brooks sought to eliminate extraneous detail in her work, paring an image down to reveal universal human qualities.

Brooks is known particularly for her images of women and children. Aspiring Musicians (Daniel and Pepe), Fountain Centro Cultural demonstrates her ability to produce a compelling image that seems to expose the inner life of her subjects.
