This exceptionally fresh and lively drawing belongs to the oeuvre of a little-known artist: Lefèvre, born in Flanders, worked primarily in Venice during the third quarter of the 17th century, where he reinterpreted the classicism of Paolo Veronese and Pietro da Cortona into a restrained Baroque idiom.

His drawing production was apparently abundant, although not many sheets by him are known today. This work is clearly a study for a ceiling decoration, as yet unidentified, its expansive scenographic layout adjusted to fit the curves of the intended site.
