Giuseppe Chiari was an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, active mostly in Rome. This drawing depicts the evening of the last supper, when Jesus, suspecting his betrayal, prayed under olive trees while his disciples succumbed to sleep. An angel came from heaven to strengthen him. Luke 12:56 is sometimes translated as “Listen, hypocrites! You can predict the weather by paying attention to the face of the sky and the earth, but why can’t you interpret the urgency of this present moment?”.
