Tobias and the Angel Taking Leave of Tobit and Anna; No. 2 in a series of 6: The Story of Tobit Tobie et l’ange prenant congé de Tobit et d’Anne; no 2 d’une série de 6 : Le Livre de Tobie
n. d. date inconnue

In the second plate of his series dedicated to the Book of Tobit, Braun highlights the departure of Tobias and the angel from the former’s parents. This proves to be a difficult moment for the family, as Anna worries that she will never see her son again and Tobias is saddened to leave behind his incapacitated father (Tobit 5:16–17). Overlapping handshakes bind the four characters together. Although they do not realize it at this very moment, Tobit and his family are in the presence of one of God’s messengers and their faith and loyalty will be rewarded. Ultimately, Tobias will safely return to his parents after his long journey to Rages. Tobias travels to this far away land in order to recuperate a sum of money that Tobit has left with Gabael. At the back right of the composition, Tobit provides his son with a handwritten letter, which will enable Tobias to recover the funds from Gabael. On the other side, silhouettes of the winged angel and Tobias are on the verge of disappearing at the foot of a hill as they begin their arduous voyage.
