In addition to paintings, the Antwerp artist Marten de Vos produced numerous designs for engravings, many of them moralizing or religious in character, in line with the ideals of the Counter Reformation. De Vos included his scene of Tobit burying those killed by the Assyrians in a series of the Seven Acts of Mercy, a popular theme drawn from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount.
