Amid a selection of works from the collection, the contemporary galleries are outfitted with study spaces for public use. In turn, the art has been chosen to sympathize with such places for thinking, which are ripe for informal encounters and escape plans. The resulting show is a set of diverse works held together by their spirit of research, searching inscriptions, playful assemblage and imagined collectivities, including pieces by John Abrams, Napoleon Brousseau, Thomas Carl Burrows, Robin Collyer, Tom Dean, Sarindar Dhaliwal, Martha Fleming and Lyne Lapointe, Vera Frenkel, Jenny Holzer, Luis Jacob, Gustav Klimt, Germaine Koh, Nobuo Kubota, Sue Lloyd, Kelly Mark, Olia Mishchenko, Andy Patton, Pablo Picasso, Anne Ramsden, Ted Rettig, Dionne Simpson, Gabrielle Sims, Sherwin Tjia, Lisa Visser, Tim Whiten, and Jin-me Yoon.

This selection is equally compelled by an inquiry into the tenacious hold of credit—as the supposed goal of study (accreditation) and the supposed goal of financial life (good credit)—discovered as an individualizing force.

This is the first in a series of exhibitions designed to explore the obscured commons of contemporary art collections. Their exhibition conjures a moment of mutual indebtedness, a sign of both protection and hospitality, container and embrace.
