Curator, researcher, and writer Dr Qanita Lilla joined Agnes’s team in the newly created position of Associate Curator, Arts of Africa in 2021. Qanita’s work looks to provide alternatives to exclusionary museum practices. She is interested in excluded epistemologies, depictions of traumatic histories and collections, representations of racialized minorities and the social roles of museums.
Qanita began her appointment with the path-breaking exhibition With Opened Mouths. Following the successful run of With Opened Mouths: The podcast, a second season launches in January 2023. Qanita is also Assistant Professor in Screen Cultures and Curatorial Studies in the Film and Media Department at Queen’s University.
