Staff Spotlight:
Sonia Riabtchik and Alex Wilson, Student Program and Education Assistants

24 July 2023

Sonia Riabtchik is in their final year at Queen’s University, majoring in History and minoring in Film and Media. Alex Wilson is a third-year concurrent education student studying Indigenous Studies and English.

Since May, Sonia and Alex have been working collaboratively to plan, organize and run five weeks of art camp! Sonia and Alex are helping to develop a new school program connected to Emergence that runs 3 October to 10 November 2023. Students in grades 1–8  deepen their understanding of elements and principles of art as they observe and discuss works in a variety of mediums including painting, graphics, sculpture and textiles. The program includes a 45-minute  tour and a 45-minute artmaking activity.

Sonia enjoys exploring the possibilities of museum and art education, making silly art in their free time, and analyzing different types of media. Alex’s favourite form of making art is sewing!

The Program and Education Assistant positions were made possible through Queen’s Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP).
