EXHIBITIONS
Rembrandt: Beneath the Surface of Portrait of a Man with Arms Akimbo
7 January–9 April 2017
Bader Gallery
Curated by Jacquelyn Coutré, Bader Curator and Researcher of European Art

Agnes’s three Rembrandt paintings remain on view in the Bader Gallery. As a highlight this winter, we present a fascinating x-radiograph of the Portrait of a Man with Arms Akimbo in the context of the technical analysis employed in the exhibition The Unvarnished Truth. This x-radiograph suggests that changes were made by the artist in the studio and by subsequent owners, offering insight into the portrait’s little-known physical history.
