This drawing was probably done for the fireplace in the sala della Biblioteca of the castel Sant’Angelo, Rome. A drawing in the British Museum for the fireplace is attributed to Luzio Romano (P. Pouncey and J. A. Gere, Italian Drawings in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum , London, 1962, no. 186, pl. 155). Both Perino del vaga and Pelligrino Tibaldi worked in Castel Sant’Angelo in the 1540s.
