Palamedesz., Anthonie
Bust-length Portrait of a Woman
Around 1661

Anthonie Palamedesz. introduced the muted palette and strong lighting effects of Rembrandt’s work into the genre scenes he produced while still in Delft. Some of these traits echo in this later portrait of an older woman from his Amsterdam years, likely suiting the conservative taste or convictions of his sitter and rejecting recent stylistic developments in this city.
