This crafting process anticipates digitalmanipulation and a cut-and-paste aesthetic. In other imagesin the same series, Noguchi weaves her photograph togetherwith those of murder victims. By blurring the identitiesof victim and offender, these compilations challenge thedistinctions between the viewer, subject and creator.A new kind of looking practice is called into being bythe ambiguity of Compilation Portrait #18.
