Kubota, Nobuo
L1974F
1974

This elegant sculptural work relies on its tension-sprung assembly for its dynamic presence and spatial complexity: two grooved varnished sheets of plywood are provisionally bolted to a sheet of flexible stainless steel of the same dimensions, with the steel arced between the two plywood forms. The piece deploys mass produced industrial materials, minimally altered to produce form through their relative position.
