Robertson, Sarah Margaret Armour
October, Ottawa Valley (also known as “Storm Como”)
around 1937

“Her landscapes are living examples that nature is a source and not a standard and she has the courage to create landscapes, and not copy them literally.” (Arthur Lismer, Montreal Star, 9 May 1934)

A Montreal artist and member of the Beaver Hall Group, Robertson became a member of the Canadian Group of Painters in 1933. A connection to the Group of Seven came through her friendship with A. Y. Jackson. Because of her delicate health, paintings by Sarah Robertson are relatively rare. However, Storm Como is a strong and accomplished painting and indicates the level of accomplishment of which Robertson was capable.
