On a raised platform in the foreground, Raguel embraces Tobias as Edna, Sarah and the angel observe this captivating moment. All of the figures are heavily clad in garments that are characterized by a variety of creases and folds. The tip of Tobias’s staff can be seen at the bottom of the print where it lies next to his dog—above the Latin inscription notifying the viewer that this scene illustrates chapter seven of the Book of Tobit. On either side of the central action, subsidiary moments from the narrative are depicted. On the left, Raguel and his family entertain their guests around the dinner table. On the right, a man slaughters a ram honouring Tobias’s arrival to Ecbatana. At the back, lightly engraved lines delineate the town hill. This compositional formula—the use of dark contour lines and cross-hatching in the foreground combined with soft, subdued lines in the background—is consistent with the other prints in this series.
