Wet, Jacob de, the younger
The Angel Leaving Tobias and His Family L'ange quittant Tobie et sa famille
Around 1672 v. 1672

The junior De Wet followed his father in painting dramatic, small-figured Biblical scenes based on Rembrandt’s early Leiden works, even while drawing on some of Rembrandt’s later themes, as seen here. The prominent motif of the radiant angel ascending into a cloud is adapted from Rembrandt’s famous painting of the same theme, of 1637, now in the Louvre.
