This etching is a later printing of Moses van Uyttenbroeck’s Tobias Restoring his Father’s Vision. In the 1640s, the Dutch print publisher Hendrik Hondius printed a set of impressions from Van Uyttenbroeck’s plates illustrating the Book of Tobit. Hondius primarily operated out of The Hague and was quite active in the publishing business during the latter part of his career (between 1640 and 1650). In this, the final etching in the series, the miraculous operation that enables Tobias’s father to regain his sight serves as the focal point of the composition.
