In the eight plate of this series of prints devoted to the Book of Tobit, Tobias and Sarah take leave of Raguel and Edna (Tobit 10:10-12). To separate the focal point from the subsidiary action of this composition, the artist once again makes use of an elevated platform, lending the protagonists in the foreground a stage-like presence. On the left, Edna and Tobias exchange parting words; to the right of them, Raguel and Sarah partake in a similar conversation. Relegated to a secondary role in this arrangement, the Archangel Raphael stands behind this group of figures. Meanwhile, Tobias’s faithful dog barks at his owner, urging him to get on with his journey to Nineveh. At the right of the image, Tobias and Sarah leave on horseback. Ahead of them, camels and donkeys populate the winding landscape. Some of the animals carry possessions that Raguel has offered as gifts to Tobit and Anna.
