Bridging Communities with Emebet Belete

Rideau Building
207 Stuart St, Rm 221
5 April 2025
1:30–4:30pm

All are welcome and no experience is required.

Registration for this workshop will open at 10am on 14 January 2025.

Join us for a workshop celebrating Bridging Communities, a public art project led by artist Emebet Belete. Over the past year, students, community groups, and individuals from across the Bay of Quinte region and Kingston have come together to crochet thousands of vibrant pieces that will cover the Upper Front Street Bridge in Belleville. This project celebrates the diverse communities of the Bay of Quinte.

During the workshop, participants will hear from Emebet Belete about the inspiration, vision, and impact of Bridging Communities. There will also be an opportunity to crochet new pieces that will contribute to the project.

A pre-knowledge of single crochet will be helpful for workshop participants. The artist will teach single crochet, techniques for changing colours, how to work diagonally, and creating designs. All necessary materials will be provided.

The Studio is a place to meet innovative practicing artists from Kingston and across Canada, hear about their work and artistic practice and explore a creative project together.

This program is made possible through the Iva Speers Fund for Art Education.
