The Studio invites you to wind down and refresh through art making and experimentation. Register for one or all four workshops.

The Studio invites you to wind down and refresh through art making and experimentation. Each workshop embraces collective and creative expression by using the studio space as a site for fostering a generative environment for art making, exploration and play. The fee is pay what you can, with a suggested program donation of $5, payable at the door. Space is limited; register online. The Studio workshops are led by artist, Danielle Folkerts.

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY
Danielle Folkerts is a contemporary interdisciplinary artist and art educator living and working in Kingston, Ontario. Originally from Alberta, her formal education includes a Visual Arts Diploma from Red Deer College, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with Distinction, from the Alberta College of Art + Design, majoring in Painting. Danielle has attended a number of artist residencies and workshops around the globe.

Zine Making: Express yourself! Zines are independently produced, photocopied booklets that contain original artwork, journal entries, poetry, fiction, political writing or all of the above. Together we’ll review the history of zines, flip through a collection of fun creations for inspiration and each develop a zine of our own.

Shibori Dyeing: The root verb “Shiboru” means to wring, squeeze and press. Here’s the perfect opportunity for you to wring, squeeze and press your creative energies into beautifully dyed cloth. We will create and share the knowledge and alchemy of the Indigo plant pigment, as we explore basic Shibori dyeing techniques of folding, wrapping, and clamping fabric to create both geometric and organic resist patterns.

Mixed-Media Textiles: Explore your inner artist through the art of mixed-media textiles. Stitch, weave, glue, paint, layer, dye, cut and find the greatest pleasure in the tactile and contemplative process of mixing materials to lead to unexpected outcomes.
