Art in Bloom Gala Reception

Thursday 15 June 2017
6:30–8:30 pm

This special evening will feature desserts and a cash bar, and the interpreters will be on hand to discuss their inspiration.

Talented artists, designers and gardeners will present floral interpretations of works of art in the galleries 16–18 June. The big reveal takes place on the evening of 15 June at a Gala Art in Bloom Reception. Tickets are $35: book yours now at (613) 533.2190. This special evening will feature delightful desserts from Bread & Butter Bakery, Clark Day and Sodexo, along with a welcoming glass of wine for each ticket holder.

The floral interpreters are the stars of the evening; they will be on hand to speak with you about their piece. You will have a chance to vote for a People’s Choice flower arrangement. This special evening celebrates beauty and will have a lasting impact by raising funds to support the John L. Russell and Gerald Brenner Fund, which is dedicated to the conservation of Canadian art in the Agnes holdings.

Created at the initiative of Dr Henry and June Dinsdale, this Fund honours two important figures in the research and preservation of Canadian art. For over 55 years, John L. Russell and Gerald Brenner made their mark in Canadian decorative arts and painting through their shops—John. L. Russell of Montreal and Beaver Hall Antiques of Gananoque—and through their sustained efforts to document Canadian art and artifacts and preserve historic landmarks. Building on the gift of the watercolour painting The Insolvent Subalterns Paying Morning Visits by Sir Edmund Yeamans Walcott Henderson to the Agnes, their legacy is being extended through the John L. Russell and Gerald Brenner Fund. This Fund will provide much-needed resources for the cleaning and restoration of the gallery’s very fine holdings in Canadian art.

Gala tickets are available at the Agnes by phone (613) 533.2190 or by post at Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Queen’s University Attn: Art in Bloom, 36 University Avenue, Kingston, ON K7L 3N6. Buy your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
