Performance

The Way We Did Things is a 24-hour durational, outdoor, public performance by Kingston-based artist Sheldon Traviss at a former quarry site. Beginning at sunrise, Sheldon forages for wild clay and edible plants before constructing a traditionally designed Haudenosaunee cooking pot. The performance culminates with the making and serving of chickory tea as an embodiment of contemporary urban Indigenous land-based relations.

Co-curated by Sebastian De Line, Associate Curator, Care and Relations and Taylor Norris, Public Art Coordinator, City of Kingston
