A short workshop on finding calls, responding to them, and best practices in working with editors.
Michael DiRisio leads this session for arts writers and aspiring arts writers covering where to find calls for papers, how to develop and submit a text or review proposal, and best practices for working with editors. Three sample exhibition reviews will be the basis for discussing common approaches to writing about contemporary art and the writer’s process, from proposal and development to proofing and publishing. We will also review a standard contributor’s contract, highlighting copyright practices and writers’ fees.
Michael DiRisio has published in Art Papers, Afterimage, Fuse Magazine, Esse Magazine and Public Journal, among others, with forthcoming essays in BlackFlash and Espace Magazine. He is currently the Artistic Director of Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, where he edits the centre’s bi-annual arts periodical Syphon. He previously worked in publishing with C Magazine.
All are welcome, and this event is free of charge. Writing for Arts Periodicals is presented by Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre in collaboration with the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.
