Michelle Bunton started their role as Curatorial Assistant, Contemporary Art in February of 2020. Through this role, Bunton supports contemporary programs, including artist residencies, exhibitions, programming, and publications. Bunton originally joined the Agnes team two years prior as Curatorial Assistant – Special project, supporting the research, development and coordination of Drift: Art and Dark Matter, a partnership between Agnes, the Arthur B. McDonald Canadian Astroparticle Physics Research Institute and SNOLAB. The project includes an artist residency, exhibition (Winter 2021), tour, publication, digital interactive and program development.
Michelle Bunton graduated from Western University with a BFA alongside a Major in English Literature and the Scholars Electives program. They also hold an Award of Achievement from UBC in Creative Writing. Bunton is one of four co-founders of the Kingston-based micropress Small Potatoes, one-half of the artist duo Tear Jerkers alongside GHY Cheung, and an annual expedition leader for the Ayatana Artists’ Research Program. Bunton recently stepped down from the Board of Directors at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre after serving two terms. They can also be spotted at Kingston’s local roller derby rink, playing for both the Skateful Dead and the Rogue Warriors.
