New Films Launching

24 January 2024

Filming is underway for the next three commissioned films in the award-winning Artists at Agnes series! This online film series spotlights the work of artists represented in Agnes’s collection. Ideas and stories behind the artworks unreel through informed, first-hand accounts. Produced by artist-filmmakers, the films share studio visits, candid interviews, and location shots. Find them on Digital Agnes in 2024 following submissions to local film festivals.

Braden Dragomir of Untold Storytelling is working alongside artist Winsom Winsom to explore her practice as a spiritually informed multi-media artist. This film is part of Kingston Canadian Film Festival’s Local Shorts on  1 March, 9:30 pm at the Baby Grand Theatre.

Filmmakers Tess Girard and Shelby Lisk are collaborating with Ottawa-based artist Gayle Uyagaqi Kabloona to produce a film that delves into the Inuit legends that carry into her work and tying in her ancestral lineage to artists Jessie Oonark and Victoria Mamnguqsualuk.

In partnership with artist Jinny Yu, Adrienne Row-Smith and Hingman Leung of Firegrove Studios present an imagined conversation between the artist’s present and past selves, reflecting on artistic practice.

The first film launched last spring. Chaka Chikodzi produced by Naomi Okabe and Tess Girard in collaboration with Chaka Chikodzi, won the award for Best Local Short at the 2023 Kingston Canadian Film Festival and is available to watch now on Digital Agnes.

Funded by the Museums Assistance Program, Digital Access to  Heritage grant and the Guardian Capital Indigenous Art Fund.
