About the Collection

The Indigenous Art Collection comprises significant works in various media by First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists from Turtle Island as well as Indigenous artists and communities internationally that celebrate living arts and cultures spanning ancient to present-day generations. These Indigenous arts and cultural ancestors (known as objects or artifacts in the Western canon) traverse both the contemporary and historical art collections, extending to global Indigenous art production including African historical, Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands historical, and Oceanic historical collections.
