Contemporary Art
About the Collection

The Contemporary Art Collection features critically relevant visual art in Canada, with emphasis on the emerging generation of artists and works that reflect contemporary life and the diversity of Canadian society. It is national in scope, representing vital artistic impulses, ideas and events of the current period and context and capturing key movements in the forefront of artistic practice.

Our contemporary holdings reflect curatorial research and programming, with a concentration of politically engaged art and works connected to the many facets of our regional context.

The Contemporary Art Collection intersects with the Indigenous Art Collection in the representation of contemporary First Nations, Métis and Inuit art.
